We are an Alaska Native Corporation, owned by shareholders of the Unangan Village of St. George, founded in 1973 pursuant to the Alaskan Native Claims Settlement Act. All funds benefit our members of the village of St. George Island.
TANAQ’s mission is to enhance shareholder well-being by achieving sustained financial growth, responsibly managing their assets, preserving their cultural heritage, and conserving natural resources.
St. George Island has a significant history since its discovery in 1786, involving the enslavement of Aleuts from the Aleutian Islands for fur seal harvesting. The island’s remote location has fostered resourcefulness, self-reliance, and hard work among its residents, traits that continue to be passed down through generations.
